Peshawar Blast: There were about 260 people inside the mosque at the time of the explosion, said police
According to Reuters, a suicide bomber targeted a mosque in Peshawar’s Police Lines neighbourhood and exploded the device, leaving at least 28 people dead and more than 150 injured on 30th January.
According to Police officer Sikandar Khan said the explosion happened in the mosque where many people had gathered to pray. There were about 260 people inside the mosque at the time of the explosion, and it was close to a police housing complex.

Police chief Muhammad Ijaz Khan told AFP that the incident happened during afternoon prayers in Peshawar near Afghanistan.
Speaking to the media, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar Muhammad Ijaz Khan said that the roof of the mosque collapsed after the blast. “A number of jawans are still stuck under the rubble and rescuers are trying to pull them out.”
In response to a question on the nature of the blast, the officials said: “The smell of explosives has been detected but it is too early to say anything substantial.”
Khan said between 300 to 400 police officials were present in the area at the time of the blast. “It is apparent that a security lapse occurred,” the CCPO told the media.

He added that the bodies and injured persons have been moved to the LRH.
“We have received dead bodies. It’s an emergency situation,” Muhammad Asim Khan, a spokesman for the main hospital in Peshawar, said.
In a statement, the Pakistani Prime Minister condemned the bombing and ordered officials to provide the victims with the finest medical care available. And he promised “severe measures” “against those who were behind the attack.
Imran Khan, former PM, condemned the bombing and called it a “terrorist suicide attack.” in a tweet.
“My prayers & condolences go to the victim’s families. It is imperative we improve our intelligence gathering & properly equip our police forces to combat the growing threat of terrorism,” Imran Khan tweeted.

Visuals run on television channels showed people gathered around the collapsed wall of the mosque. Meanwhile, roads leading to the Red Zone — the area housing Governor’s House, Chief Minister Secretariat, Corps Headquarters and important defense installations — have been closed.
