The news coming in the last few days has not been very good as Afghanistan has been taken over by the Taliban. People are running around to find refuge and the internet is flooding with sadly overwhelming news of the plight of people, especially women and marginalised groups. Yet, there have been a lot of women who made it to the news during the last week including Justice BV Nagarathna and here’s a list of all of them.

Grace Banu becomes First Recipient Of Tamil Nadu Govt Award For Transgender People
MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, honoured transgender activist Grace Banu for “Outstanding Work for the Upliftment of Third Genders” on Independence Day. Banu was the inaugural recipient of the award, which was created by the Tamil Nadu government. The prize is awarded by the Department of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment. Banu thanked the state government for conferring the honour on her, but she took issue with the term “Best Third Gender Award.”

Journalist Yalda Hakim received a call from the Taliban, the video went Viral
Following the conquest of Kabul and all of Afghanistan’s main cities, which resulted in a power change in the war-torn country, the Islamist organisation Taliban has broken its silence. Suhail Shaheen, the Taliban’s spokesperson, summoned a BBC journalist, Yalda Hakim, on-air to discuss the group’s future plans. The journalist was similarly taken aback when she received the call, has been praised profusely after she expertly handled the situation.
Netta D’Souza was appointed as acting president of Mahila Congress
Netta D’Souza has been named acting president of the Congress Party’s women’s section by Sonia Gandhi, the party’s interim leader. This occurred only a day after Mahila Congress head Sushmita Dev resigned from the party. She is currently a member of the Trinamool Congress in Kolkata, West Bengal. She informed Sonia Gandhi of her departure from the party in a letter. She did not, however, provide any particular reasons.
Women in Afghan Protest in Kabul
Afghanistan’s present condition under the Taliban government has left the country’s women feeling pessimistic about their future. Some women are seen holding banners and demonstrating against the Taliban in Kabul in a video released by journalist and activist Masih Alinejad.

BV Nagarathna could become India’s first female CJI in 2027
On Tuesday, Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana proposed nine names for appointment to the Supreme Court, including Justice BV Nagarathna. If the centre approves the proposals, Justice Nagarathna might become the first woman Chief Justice of India in 2027.
Afghan women governor Salima Mazari captured
Salima Mazari, one of Afghanistan’s first female governors, did not escape the nation like many other political figures and stayed until the province of Balkh was surrendered in Chahar Kint district. She chose to take up guns in order to combat the Taliban, and she is currently being held captive by the Taliban. Her present whereabouts are unknown.
RJ Malishka called out for objectifying Neeraj Chopra
The Mumbai Radio Jockey RJ Malishka Mendonsa’s video interview with Neeraj Chopra went viral. Malishka is seen swaying to a Bollywood classic during her contact with 23-year-old Chopra as he watches on via the screen, somewhat awkwardly, according to social media users who are not amused by her antics, according to pictures she published on Twitter from her studio.

Malishka is seen asking Chopra for a jadoo ki jhappi (a hug) over the screen in another footage from her interview doing the rounds, to which his response is simply showing that he is uncomfortable in that interview.
