The film is directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan, and Jyoti Deshpande. It features new actors such as Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastav, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan. Laapataa Ladies is based on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami, with the screenplay and dialogues written by Sneha Desai and additional dialogues by Divyanidhi Sharma.
The film was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and was released in Indian theaters on March 1. Although it didn’t make a lot of money at the box office, it received positive reviews from critics and gained a new audience after being released on Netflix.
Kiran Rao expressed her excitement about the film’s Oscar nomination, saying that her dream would be fulfilled if it wins. She also announced that Laapataa Ladies will be released in theaters in Japan starting October 4, 2024.
Critics have praised the film for its themes about women’s rights and empowerment. It addresses how society can limit women’s dreams after marriage.
As the Oscars approach, Laapataa Ladies is being recognized not just as an entertaining film, but also as one that encourages important discussions about gender and empowerment in society.
