Barkha Dutt was born on December 18, 1971, into a Brahmin family. Her father, S.P. Dutt, served as an Air India official, while her mother, Prabha Dutt, was a renowned journalist with the Hindustan Times. Barkha’s educational journey took her from the Modern School in New Delhi to St. Stephens College, where she pursued a degree in English Literature. Later, she earned a Master’s in Mass Communication from the Jamia Millia Islamia Mass Communication Research Center in New Delhi. Seeking further academic excellence, Barkha ventured to New York for a master’s Degree at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.

Career Milestones

Joining NDTV in 1994 at the age of 21, Barkha Dutt quickly became a recognizable face in Indian journalism. The turning point in her career was the Kargil War of 1999, where her reporting style garnered nationwide acclaim. Her interview with Captain Vikram Batra further solidified her reputation as a seasoned journalist.

In 2001, Barkha took the reins of her talk show, “We The People,” which ran successfully for 16 years. However, in 2015, after 21 years with NDTV, she decided to explore new opportunities.
