The last week happened to be a disaster for the country, of course, because the COVID cases have been increasing more than ever before. And amid that, there has been some good and bad news related to women. Viral video of Aunty in the Liquor shop
Well, after Delhi Government declared lockdown in the state, a video of old women went viral. The woman stands in male dominate queue at a liquor shop in Shivpuri Geeta Colony. The woman said “…Injection fayda nahi karega, ye alcohol fayda karegi…Mujhe dawaion se asar nahi hoga, peg se asar hoga…” The woman meant that it won’t be the vaccine that will help them from the virus but the alcohol that will come to their their rescue.

Priyanka Mohite becomes the first woman to climb Mt Annapurna
Priyanka Mohite is a 26-year-old mountaineer who already had a record of scaling Mt Makalu in 2019. She had earlier climbed Mt Everest at the age of 21, becoming the youngest ever to do so. This time, she has become the country’s first woman to climb Mt Annapurna on 16th August 2021. People took to Twitter to congratulate her.

Soumya Swaminathan Yadav, an Indian Scientist becomes a member of the UK led Pandemic team
Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Chief Scientist at the World Health Organization (WHO), is one of 20 experts who will form a new UK-led Pandemic Preparedness Partnership (PPP) on Tuesday as part of global efforts to save lives from potential diseases. In 2019, the Indian clinical scientist was named as the World Health Organization’s chief scientist. She has extensive experience in the field of health sciences, which has aided her race against her father, M. S. Swaminathan, who revolutionized Indian agriculture.

Zomato adds 50% female representation on its board
Zomato, which is planning for an initial public offering (IPO) in the coming months, has appointed five independent directors to its Board of eight people, four of whom are women. Zomato’s board of directors was formerly dominated by investors. As a result, Zomato currently has 50% female representation in the management. Aparna Popat, a badminton player and ex-Olympian, will join Zomato’s board of directors, as will former Zalora Group CEO Gunjan Tilak Raj Soni, Airveda founder Namita Gupta, and Sutapa Banerjee, former head of private wealth company at ABN Amro Bank NV (India).

A Chinese female filmmaker, Chloé Zhao won an oscar for best direction, for her film, Nomadland. She becomes the first Asian Woman, and the second woman in the world to get an Oscar in the Best Director Category.
