This week was full of some good and bad news related to women. Women from sports, politics, entertainment, and media, all have found names in the news of the last week and we thought of bringing the collection of all such news right on your table. The week started with Marwa Elselehdar and the Suez Canal Controversy and ended with Guneet Monga being conferred with the French honour of the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters. Marwa Elselehdar, Egypt’s first female ship captain, tolled for the Suez Canal block:
Marwa Elsehdar, Egypt’s first female ship captain. Recently, with the Suez Canal block, her name was pulled in for false scandal. She was being trolled on social media putting her being responsible for the blockade and the loss of millions of dollars in regular trade because of the blockade.
Actor-Politician, Jaya Bachchan set for West Bengal election campaign
Jaya Bachchan has been actively participating and campaigning for TMC in the upcoming West Bengal Elections. On 5th April, according to reports, she began her campaign for TMC candidate Arup Biswas Monday in Tollygunge.

Cricketer Shikha Pandey back to her position of Top 10 in ICC rankings
Shikha Pandey is a pacer in the Indian Women’s Cricket Team. With the recently released ICC Women’s ODI player rankings, she regained her position back in the Top 10. Earlier, in the list of 2019, she was ranked fifth and again, has bagged her position in the list.
Hima Das and Neeraj Chopra to participate in training-cum-competition event in Turkey
Hima Das, an Indian sprinter, and Neeraj Chopra, an Indian javelin thrower, will compete in a training event in Turkey. According to the National Federation, the two athletes will compete in an event by the end of this month. A contingent of 40 other people and coaches will also be there for the event.
Assamese Journalist-Writer, Sikha Sharma arrested on the Sedition Charges
Guwahati Police had arrested Shikha Yadav for a Facebook post on Tuesday. Shikha is charged for Sedition, accusing her of “Causing disrespect to Martyrs” and inciting remarks about the martyrs on social media. This was in reference to the recent death of 22 Maoist workers.
81-Year-old women, Rani Devi to Contest Elections
Rani Devi is an octogenarian who has planned to go for Panchayat Elections in UP 2021 from the Kanpur District. “I will contest to bring much-needed change, myself”. She has filled her papers for the Nomination as Block Development Council (BDC) member.
Shefali Shah’s Film ‘Someday’ Shortlisted For 51st USA Film Festival
‘Someday’ a directorial Debut of Shafali Shah is selected for the USA Film Festival. Shefali Shah is one of the amazing actors in the niche cinema and Someday is her first directorial debut. The festival is scheduled for April 2 to April 25. She announced the selection on her Instagram.

Indian Tennis player, Sania Mirza has been selected for the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) and is basically her comeback to the TOPS.
Guneet Monga Becomes Recipient Of The French Honour
Filmmaker Guneet Monga, the producer of Pagglait, will be awarded the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters), France’s second-highest civilian honour. She has become a BAFTA nominee and ended up among the first Indian producers to be nominated for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
