In the midst of a severe rain threat, MK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, has requested that IT companies permit their staff to operate remotely until October 18. The Chief Minister evaluated the state of preparation for the monsoon and issued an orange alert, predicting heavy rain across Tamil Nadu and keeping motorboats and pumps ready.

Given the forecast for heavy rain on Tuesday, October 15, the Tamil Nadu government has ordered all institutions and colleges in the state’s Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu districts to remain closed. Additionally, State Chief Minister MK Stalin requested that IT companies permit their staff in these districts to work from home through October 18.

The four districts’ District Magistrates (DM) declared that they were prepared to handle any crisis that may arise from flooding.
For the next three days, Tamil Nadu is expected to see severe to extremely heavy rain, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). “From October 12 to 16, isolated periods of severe to very heavy rainfall are predicted over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, with the heaviest rains probably falling on October 14–15. From October 14–16, an orange alert is in effect, according to the IMD.
A low-pressure region developed over the southeast Bay of Bengal on Monday about 5:30 am, according to the weather service. Over the next two days, this system is projected to intensify into a well-marked low-pressure region and proceed northwest towards the beaches of southern Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, and northern Tamil Nadu.
