A blend of nature and peace, ‘Jim Corbett National Park, is a heaven for wildlife lovers in India. It’s like a real paradise, from where you will definitely never feel like coming back.
Jim Corbett National Park is a main hub for wildlife photographers and tourists. It is situated on the base of Himalaya in Uttarakhand. People from all over the world visits this place, all round the season.
Sudeepti Mahanta, who recently visited Corbett says, “I enjoyed the Corbett very much. It’s a peaceful place to be in. I would love to visit again. Most amazing thing about the Corbett is that it makes you forgets all your woes and freshens up your mind and soul.”
Briefing about her experience, Sudeepti further says, “When you visit Jim Corbett, you’ll have to book for a particular travel package, depending on how many people you are travelling with. In each package, you get food and a place to stay but the safari costs can vary depending on the package you choose. On first day, they will provide you tents to help you experience, the pleasure of being in a forest. Then, later on, you may stay in a luxurious cottage. At night, bon fires and games brighten up the mood of people, especially of couples”.
Here, tourism is allowed for common people to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the Park, but tourism is restricted to few areas only for the sake of safety of animals. People travel to this destination to enjoy a peaceful life and for the sake of being away from the daily monotonous life.
Jim Corbett was established in 1936 to protect the endangered Bengal tiger, as at that time the hunting were at its heights. Soon after inauguration of the park, hunting and killing were banned. The reserve was renamed twice, once in 1954–55 as Ramganga National Park, and then in 1955–56 as Corbett National Park. The name Jim Corbett was fixed to honor the environmentalist and conservationist Jim Corbett.
Varied flora of Corbett consists of around six hundred species of trees, shrubs, herbs, ferns, grasses etc. Most abundant trees found in Corbett are Khair, Mahua,Bel, Kusum, Amaltas, n flowering plants Dhak, Kachnar, Semal, Amaltas are most common. Here more than seventy species of grasses are recorded, which form the largest group of plants species inside Corbett. In fauna, more than 586 species of local and migratory birds, 33 species of reptiles, seven species of amphibians and fish and thirty-six species of dragonflies have been recorded.
“There is a tree for which death penalty is issued, if caught cutting or harming in any way”, says a local travel guide-Ramesh, who showed the tree to a Delhi visitor, Malay Thakur.
Jim Corbett can be visited in these three seasons-
Winter season starts from October ends in March: It is the best suited time to enjoy seeing birds and mountains.
Summer season starts from April and ends in June: these time days are hot followed by cold nights, its best time to see animals, especially elephants.
During monsoon, humid days and summer nights offer great experience of trekking and rafting on Kosi River. It’s best time to admire flora.
Jim Corbett national park is built in the large area of 520.8 square kilometers which comprises of mountain ranges, rivers, lands, forests, marshy areas, and grasslands. Mostly winter nights in Corbett Park are cold, but the days are bright and sunny. The rainy season in Corbett starts from July to September.
Jim Corbett is well connected via roads with major cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, and one can get buses from these cities to visit Jim Corbett. However, the nearest city is Ramnagar. To visit from Delhi, one can catch train from Ramnagar, and from there one can take buses to visit Jim Corbett. If the visitor is travelling from Lucknow, then he or she can travel by road from Lucknow to Bareilly; to Kashipur; to Ramnagar, then Corbett. The travelling distance is approximately four hundred kilometer. To travel from Nainital by road, one can land on Ramnagar, then directly to Corbett. Total distance is around seventy kilometer.
Safaris are provided to roam in the forest and to watch the varied flora and fauna. Timing of safaris is from 6am to 10am, and in the evening from 4pm- 6pm. One is not allowed to roam around in the forest before and after the fixed timings of the park. Jim Corbett has many prohibited areas in which tourists are not allowed to enter, for safety purpose of humans and animals, both.
Jim Corbett has few rules and regulations to be followed:
• Green and brown colored dresses should be given preference.
• Some fragrance are disturbance to the animals so, applying perfumes should be avoided.
• Loitering around in the restricted areas should be avoided.
• Keep a first aid box with you.
• Keep the environment clean.
• Use comfortable walking shoes.
