Mysore Palace

The true essence of Mysore lies in this magnificent palace. It is a major tourist destination, and you need half a day to complete a round of this palace. The palace was the official residency of the Wodeyars. They ruled the city from 1399 to 1950. The Palace is a mix of different forms of architecture- British, Gothic, Mughal, and Rajput- making it a truly beautiful spectacle. 

Chamundeshwari Temple and Chamundi Hills

This is one of the most beautiful temples set on the Chamundi Hills. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Chamundeshwari, a manifestation of Goddess Durga. You need to climb 1000 steps to reach this temple and the view is a feast to the eyes. The huge Nandi statue is also an architectural marvel. 

Mysore Wax Museum

The museum was built by an IT professional Mr. Shreeji Bhaskaran, and houses some 300+ musical instruments. It is also called the Melody World due to the number of musical instruments on display. 

Railway Museum

It was established in 1979 by the Indian Railways and is the second of its kind, the first being located in Delhi. You can look at vintage locomotives, hand-operated steam water pump, and much more interesting stuff. If you are a history buff, do visit this place.

Brindavan Gardens

The well-manicured lawns, fountains, and greenery of the Gardens are a delight. With rich bio-diversity, the gardens are a must-visit if you want to relax. 

A quick visit to the garden will take you to the KRS dam, which is a sight to behold. The dam is set on the confluence of Kaveri River and its tributaries Hemavati and Lakshmana Tirtha. 

Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens

The Mysore Zoo was built by Maharaja Sri Chamarajendra Wodeyar Bahadur and is spread over 64 hectares. Despite being an old zoo, it is a major tourist attraction as they have managed to maintain it well and keep all sorts of flora and fauna. The different bird species are also not to be missed. 

 Bonsai Garden 

Bonsais take years to grow. These are miniature trees that have to be cared for and nurtured to help them grow. The Bonsai garden in Mysuru beautifully displays some of the oldest and most lovely miniature trees. It has a collection of more than 450 such trees. 

St. Philomena Church

It is one of the tallest churches in Asia, and the Neo-Gothic architecture is marvelous. It was designed by the French artist Daly and is inspired by Germany’s Cologne Cathedral. The painted glass and intricate designs make it look even more glorious.

Karanji Lake

Also known as the fountain lake, this is a popular picnic spot that can help you relax and enjoy a good time with your family. You can also enjoy boating here and taking a stroll around the lake. 

Mysore Sand Sculpture Museum

With 150 sculptures of sand in 16 different themes, the museum is one of a kind. With sculptures of Lord Ganesha, Mysore King Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, a Christmas tree, and more- the museum displays the artistic skills of the craftsmen.
