Will Rajasthan village become liquor free?
Women in Kachabali village in Rajasthan’s Rajsamand district led four month anti liquor campaign and now villagers also overwhelmingly voted in support of shutting down the only liquor shop in their panchayat, banning the sale of alcohol forever.
The vote was carried out under the Rajasthan Excise Rules, which empowers a panchayat to opt for closing a liquor shop if 50 per cent of its residents vote for it.
Over 94% of the 2,049 voters out of a total of 2,886 residents voted in favour of alcohol prohibition. Results of the voting will br soon presented before the distance administration.
