Traditionally a Halwai was an indispensable part of all functions that formed a part of Indian Weddings. Children of our times, majority of us must have come across groups of halwais with their huge utensils to prepare hundreds of portions of matar paneer, knead dough for myriad puris for the wedding functions. In course of time, the ‘halwai’ was gradually sidelined and small functions were taken over by special caterers in selected weddings. Now, the Wedding food in India may be on its way to the next shift that is to have dishes ordered online

An X user said she witnessed an X user attend an engagement ceremony in which the couple ordered food from an online supermarket in order to feed their guests as no one invited a caterer as is the trend. The X user has posted a picture of a Swiggy delivery partner putting food items carried in plastic boxes on a table inside a tent.
The picture attracted Swiggy and the food delivery platform triggered a message asking the Delhi couple to order their wedding food also through them. “We all know nobody utilizes the Crazy Deals better than these guys,” They said it, Swiggy said, “Even Shaadi ka khana bhi humse mangwa lena.”

Some even asked whether the same was done for other related features of the engagement party too. “ Trust me inhone barat ke liye ghoda nhi Uber se texi book karvayi hogi (They must have booked an Uber for the baraat)”, laughed an X user.
“Puja ki thali inhone phir blinkit se order ki hogi (They ordered the pooja thali from Blinkit),” another teased.
“He would have put a UPI QR code too on his invitation card, so that those who could not make it, could at least send a Shagun,” a third one added.
