Saif Ali Khan discharged after stabbing, attacker arrested, investigation ongoing, family ensures his recovery
Saif Ali Khan recovers after hospital discharge following a shocking intruder attack at Mumbai home
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was discharged from Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday, five days after being stabbed by an intruder at his residence. Doctors have advised the actor to rest at home for the next few days.
The incident occurred in the early hours of January 16 at Saif’s Bandra residence. At around 2 AM, a female employee, Eliyama Philip, spotted the intruder in the room of Saif’s younger son, Jeh. When Saif intervened to protect his staff and family, the attacker stabbed him six times. Saif sustained serious injuries, including one near his spine, and was rushed to the hospital. Doctors performed spinal surgery to stop a fluid leak and conducted plastic surgery on his arm and neck.
The attacker was later identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national living illegally in India under the alias Vijay Das. Police arrested him in Thane three days after the incident. During interrogation, he initially claimed to be from Kolkata but later admitted his true identity. His school-leaving certificate, sent by his brother, confirmed his Bangladeshi nationality.
According to Eliyama Philip’s statement to the police, she woke up after hearing noises. Initially assuming Kareena Kapoor Khan was checking on Jeh, she later saw a man coming out of the bathroom. The intruder, armed with a wooden stick and a long blade, demanded ₹1 crore. When Philip tried to shield Jeh, the intruder attacked her, injuring her hands. Hearing her screams, Saif and Kareena rushed to the scene. The intruder attacked Saif, who managed to escape and lock the attacker in the room. However, the man fled the house before police arrived.
The attack has raised concerns about Mumbai’s law and order situation. The police are continuing their investigation and brought the accused to Saif’s home to recreate the crime as part of the probe. Saif is now recovering at home with his family.
