A few months back, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi went AWOL. This caused a lot of speculation in the media as to his whereabouts. He came back after a gap of 56 days, and said he had gone to ‘introspect.’
One thought that was that. However, a new storm has brewed, with him claiming pay from the Indian Parliament for the days he was ‘introspecting’.
Now the rules of the house are very clear on this, that members have to come in to the Parliament, and sign the attendance register. After that even if they doze off, as most are wont to do, or are enjoying the subsidised goodies in the canteen, it does not matter….as long as they sign the register.
But how could the good Mr. Gandhi do so? After all he was off somewhere ‘introspecting.’
