Pakistan Elections 2018: Important Highlights

According to reports, a fierce battle is expected between Imran Khan-led Pakistan- Tehreek- E- Insaaf and Pakistan Muslim League led by Nawaz Sharif’s brother Shahbaz Sharif. Notably, Pakistan is holding its 11th general election since 1970. The voting process is underway at 85,000 polling stations. Pakistan Elections 2018 is a big event and it is getting coverage from all across the world. Here are all the important highlights, take a look.

Blast near Quetta, ISIS claims responsibility

About 4,00,000 police officers were deployed at different booths as a precautionary security measure. At least 31 people have been killed in a deadly suicide bomb near Quetta. As per reports, ISIS has taken the responsibility for this attack. Notably, Pakistan- Tehreek – E -Insaaf and Pakistan Muslim league have already locked horns and Pakistan Peoples Party led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari could win the game in case none of the party secure a clear majority.  Notably, not a single Pakistani Prime Minister has completed their term and Army has ruled Pakistan directly for 30 years.  Also, the military has exerted influence on matters of national security during civilian regimes. Shooting in Swabi

Pakistan Elections 2018: A shooting between supporters of two opposing political parties has left one person dead.  According to reports, the reason was not clear that what triggered shootout, but now, the situation is under control.

How does the Electoral Process work? 

  1. 272 seats would be filled after the election, forming the parliament in a first – past – the post system
  2. Every voter will cast two votes one for provincial assembly, another for the national assembly.
  3. Sixty seats are reserved for women and 10 for minorities. They are alloted on a basis of five percent proportional representation
  4. There are four provinces  – Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Sindh and each assembly will elect is representative who will then choose a Chief Minister. The results of Pakistan Elections 2018 will be declared soon.
