Muslim students’ population raised by 44%
A 30% increase has been witnessed in the student population of India in the age group of 5-19 years between 2001 and 2011.
This increase however has been unevenly distributed between the religious communities.
The number of Muslim students raised by 44% in the 5-19 age bracket and within that, among girls by a 53%. As a whole, students now constitute 63% of this age group among Muslims.

The highest student ratio in this age bracket has been of Jains with an 88% followed by Hindus at a 73% and after that comes the Christians.
As compared to the last census in 2001, this census showed much smaller changes in the religious communities that embraced education in the past like Christians, Sikhs and Jains. Among Jains, there is a decline of 10% in the number of students.
