Makemytrip.com took an initiative to increase the footfall of India’s paradise Jammu and Kashmir. Today at Imperial Hotel, it took an initiative to break the myth about the destination and show ground realities and initiative that they have taken for the state. “We have been in touch with Kashmir since a long time and it does serve as one of the best destination. So, we needed to make sure that Kashmir becomes the first destination for customers this summers. Last year because of the floods, there has been a drop in the footfall so this season we started to take bookings pretty early and taken initiative to spread a news that Jammu and Kashmir is not in as bad situation as the media is showing. It was just a bad drainage system” said Ranjeet Oak, Chief Business Officer-Holidays, MakeMyTrip.
Through social media they are trying to reach to the general public to showcase the ground reality about Jammu and Kashmir with hashtag of #RediscoverKashmir. Plus, to make Kashmir a customer friendly, Make My Trip is also training the customer-facing people so that they give a never forgetting experience for our customer. As far as pricing is concerned, said, “We haven’t got down in terms of the quality and this is truly for driving the market as we want people to focus on Kashmir. The price is inclusive of everything- travel, hotel, sightseeing etc.”
On the occasion, Farooq Shah (Director of Tourism- Jammu &Kashmir) said, “The main regions weren’t affected with the floods too however, the news recently has caused a horror in the market. The economy of Kashmir is largely dependent on the tourism which has fallen down in last one year. We are planning to do road shows, nationally and internationally, to spread the news around and attract people; we have a show tomorrow at Select City Walk Mall, New Delhi and are also aiming to focus on Bollywood because they are one of the most important medium of communication. In fact, Salman Khan is in Pahalgaon right now. We have also started sightseeing buses, radio taxi, a lot of activities etc. and have opened up few unexplored destinations. Also, in May, for three days, we are holding a B2B exhibition called Travel Mart wherein we would also give a travel experience to the exhibitors.”
