Japanese Whisky and Stork in Space
Six Suntory distilled liquor spirits was carefully anchored down at the International Space Station. As Japanese Astronaut Kimiya Yui carefully operated the robotic arm of the Kounotori vessel including the other 10,000 pounds of supply into the space station.
Suntory well known for its whiskey and other fine alcoholic beverages had sent their samples in orbit to check if they age the same way they do on earth. An identical set of samples are also stored on the ground in Japan to be tested together in a year’s time.
In the Kounotori Vessel, there was a white stork, 12 mice aboard as part of an aging study. The various cargo on the space capsule from spacewalking equipment, toilet wiring to even emergency breathing kit were replacements for items lost in the failed NASA SpaceX.
