Indian envoy Sanjay Verma attacked by Khalistani assailants in Canada, denies links to Nijjar’s murder

Indian High Commissioner Sanjay Verma, who was recently recalled from Canada, has shared a terrifying incident involving Khalistani assailants during a visit to Alberta. Verma recounted how the attackers came dangerously close to harming him with a sword, not a kirpan—a religious symbol in Sikhism—but an actual weapon.

Speaking to news agency , Indian Envoy Sanjay Verma described how the Khalistani goons in Canada surrounded him and his wife at the exit gate of a business event. “A sword was only an inch away from my body,” Verma said. He explained that the attack took place at a convention hall where he had attended a business dinner with several Canadian businessmen. The event was meant to strengthen business ties between India and Canada.

Outside the hall, around 150 people gathered in the name of Khalistan, protesting and creating chaos. Despite the presence of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police  and local police, the assailants managed to get dangerously close to Indian Envoy Sanjay Verma and his wife. The police intervened quickly, pushing the attackers back, and later conducted an investigation. However, Verma said he had not been informed of the final results of the police inquiry.

The Indian envoy Sanjay Verma also informed Canada’s Global Affairs office about the attack, stressing the difference between a sword and a kirpan, which is a religious item carried by Sikhs. He emphasized that the sword used in the attack was not a religious object.

Verma further highlighted the growing threat posed by Khalistani groups to peace-loving Indo-Canadians, including vandalism at places of worship. He also denied accusations made by Canada linking him to the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Verma called these allegations baseless” and reiterated India’s denial of involvement.

Tensions between India and Canada have escalated since Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed India was involved in Nijjar’s killing. India, in response, expelled six Canadian diplomats and condemned the baseless targeting of Indian officials.
