Just one day separates India’s and Pakistan’s Independence Days celebrations—India on August 15 and Pakistan on August 14. People from both nations came together to sing famous songs like “Jai Ho” from the Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire and AR Rahman’s version of “Vande Mataram,” which brought attention to this year’s event in London.
In London, Indians and Pakistanis gathered to commemorate their individual independence days. The endearing festivity, immortalized in a viral film, underscores a mutual admiration for Indian cinema and culture, beyond the customary competition between the two countries.

The video, which went viral amid violent riots targeting immigrants and minorities in the UK, shows artist Vish directing the audience with a standing microphone. On a London street, participants, most of whom were dressed in white, sang along as they hoisted flags from Pakistan, India, and the UK.
