Hindi Author Namvar Singh passed away at the age of 92
One of the most celebrated Hindi authors and literary critic Namwar Singh died in the National capital at the age of 92. He took his last breath at 11.51 pm at the All India Institute of Medical Science’s Trauma Center. Hindi writer and Senior Journalist Om Thanvi informed about Singh’s demise through a Facebook post. Notably, his last rites will take place at Lodhi Crematorium on Wednesday afternoon. His Facebook post read, “The Hindi literary world has plunged into darkness. Noteworthy thinker and a harbinger of Hindi literature passed away.”

Let us take a Sneak Peek into his life Journey:
Namvar Singh was born on July 28, 1926, in a village in Varanasi. He earned Ph.D. degree from the Banaras University and began his teaching career at the same University. He has been a professor of Hindi in many other universities too. Many Political leaders including Rajnath Singh and Arvind Kejriwal paid tribute to him.
Notably, he was the first chairman of JNU’s Centre of Indian Languages. He retired from the University in the year 1992 but continued to remain as a ‘professor emeritus’. He had many feathers in his hat. He did phenomenal work in the field of Hindi literature. Some of his prominent works include Kavita Ke Naye Pratiman, Chhayavad, and Dusari Prampara Ki Khoj among others.
Namvar Singh received the Sahitya Akademi Award for literary criticism in the year 1971 for Kavita Ke Naye Pratima. He had been the Editor of magazines Janyug and Alochana.

He tried his hand in Politics too
Namwar Singh was also the former President of the All India Progressive Writer’s Association. He had also tried his luck in Politics. In the year 1959, he contested Lok Sabha elections as a communist party of India candidate from Chandauli in Uttar Pradesh. Unfortunately, he lost the elections. His contribution to Hindi Literature is incredible and unforgettable. May his Soul Rest in Peace.
