The event started by offering prayers in front of the Buddha Statue situated at the venue. The statue was given to Indian Government and to the people of India by the Dalai Lama on 2nd October 1993, as an expression of deep gratitude. 16th December corresponds to the 25th day of 10th month of the Lunar Calendar, which the Tibetans celebrate as Gaden Ngachoe. It also marked the anniversary of Lama Tsongkhapa, who was a great contributor to the world of philosophy and psychology who appeared in Tibet in 14th CE.

The day also celebrated the spectacular legacy of Nalanda University, which once was the pride of the nation and was considered as an epitome in the World Education. Nalanda had a massive library on the literature of philosophy, psychology, logic, epistemology, cosmology and medicine. While modern science and technology are the pride of the West, India’s strength lies in disciplines such as philosophy, psychology and so forth.

In the past, the world turned towards India as its Guru. But unfortunately, Nalanda University was destroyed and its rich legacy couldn’t continue. As a result, people today have forgotten that India was the birth place of these treasures of wisdom.
