Chief Minister Dr. Mukul M. Sangma launches Megha LAMP
Meghalaya Livelihoods and Access to Markets Project (Megha LAMP) is a key statewide initiative to empower the lives of the targeted bottom one third of the population and foster in a sense of well-being.
It will develop 47,000 enterprises set up by rural communities touching a total of 140,000 households with a special effort to include poorer households, women and the socially excluded.
IFAD Mission Leader, Edward Mallorie said that Megha LAMP can be a model of international institutional practice as it is demand driven and community driven.
The Chief Minister also informed the importance of infrastructure development for sustainable livelihoods and the effects of climate change.
Megha LAMP would create access for 55 primary markets across Meghalaya, it will enhance rural connectivity for villages and producers through creating 250 km of Eco-friendly roads, 20 submersible bridges and 10 rope ways across the target areas.
The project is estimated at USD 174 million. IFAD will provide technical and loan assistance of USD 50 million. The Government of Meghalaya will provide assistance of USD 50 million and the balance through bank loans, convergence funds and contribution from participating households.
