Borderless Trade, halted with clearances
As our national highways are expanding to reach faster to borderless trade zones, there are still apparent deadlock for these container trucks to pass through the international checkpoints with the rollout of a nationwide Goods and Service tax.
The truckers have had to wait for the cumbersome tax clearance, in which the process can take days to complete.
It would amount delays in loss revenue for a lot of exporters. At the end they would have to find alternative ports to disembark their shipment on time. In which 60 percent of road traffic is due to delays in freight movement.
The new sales tax reform is supposed to seamlessly pave way for movement of goods anywhere in the country, into one large single market. However it receiving opposition from some states to being implemented.
They find it favors to states with larger manufacturing bases. It underscores certain hurdles as the government is trying to set new goals in improving its position in World Bank’s Doing Business rankings.
