Ban on Cow Slaughter will continue in Maharashtra : Bombay High Court
The Bombay High Court also supported the Maharashtra government’s decision of banning cow and bullocks slaughter in the state.
However, the court discriminalised the possession of beef, which is brought from outside the Maharashtra. The court stuck down this section from the Maharashtra Animal Preservation (amendment)act.
Last year in February, President of India granted assent to the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act and the amendment prohibited the slaughter of bulls and bullocks and the possession as a punishable offence. Though, in the original act 1976 only cow slaughter was banned.
According to a report, during the hearing HC refused to grant the interim stay to the provisions penalizing the possession of beef. Now ban on cow slaughter would continue but it is legal to eat beef in the state.
