Annual 45-day fishing ban in Tamil Nadu begins from today
The annual 45-day ban on fishing along the east coast of Tamil Nadu enter into force on Friday, a Fisheries Department official recently said.
About 10,000 mechanized boats would not go for fishing during the ban, intended to facilitate fish breeding and conservation of fish stocks in marine ecology, a director of Fisheries said.
The ban will remain in effect from 15 April to 29 May. Tamil Nadu has more than 1,076 km long coastline and is one of the major states of marine fish production. Mechanized boat would not venture into the sea to avoid the disturbance caused by travelers in marine life during the breeding season.
