Andhra’s New Captial Amravathi being seeded on Dussehra by PM
After the split of Andhra Pradesh into two – Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the newly formed state gets to keep the old capital – Hyderabad, while the old state – Andhra has to create a new capital.
The choice has fallen on Guntur district, till now famous for it’s fiery red chillies. A new capital, christend ‘Amravathi’ is to be born here on the banks of the river Krishna.
To ‘seed’ it, or lay the foundation stone, India’s Prime Minster Narendra Modi will visit the site and lay the foundation stone in a ceremony whose roots go back a few millenia.
To give a feeling of inclusion to the state, a kg of soil and a litre of water is being collected from every village in the entire state. This will then be mixed and pourd at the site of the foundation stone during the ceremony.
The ceremony is to take place tomorrow, October 22, which is the day India celebrates Dussehra, and is considered most auspicious in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
