Study funded by University Grants Commission has revealed that 40% students in colleges across India faced some kind of ragging but only 8.6% reported the incidents.
The study also found that language and region to be the basis of more than 25% ragging incidents, while caste was a factor in 8% of cases.
The report titled ‘ Psychological Study of Ragging in Selected Educational Institutions in India’ based on a survey conducted among over 10,000 students in 37 colleges across the country.
Around 33.8% students felt ragging helps in building confidence while 65% felt that it had lasting emotional impact.
