Facebook’s way of helping blind people
Facebook has taken a huge step by introducing “automatic alternative text”. This technology will of huge help to blind people as it will describe the photos they see on Facebook.
The Facebook newsroom posted this “This is possible because of Facebook’s object recognition technology, which is based on a neural network that has billions of parameters and is trained with millions of examples. Each advancement in object recognition technology means that the Facebook Accessibility team will be able to make technology even more accessible for more people. When people are connected, they can achieve extraordinary things as individuals and as a community — and when everyone is connected, we all benefit.”
It will be first launched on iOS screen readers in English, but, will soon be extended to different languages and platforms.
Huge thumbs up to FB for this innovative, thoughtful and helpful advancement.
