Facebook issues in India remains in a snowball!
For over a month, Facebook has been trying to convince the Indian regulators to lift the ban on free fundamentals program, but recent developments indicate that the social media giant is not having much success.
It was first presented last year under the name internet.org as part of the goal of the CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, universal digital access, especially for the 30 percent of Indians below the poverty line.
The crux of the matter lies in the fact that the free content fundamentals will incur data costs. However, some activists argued that all internet content should be treated equally.
With the explosive mobile penetration, India is the largest market for Facebook after the US, so that such a prohibition particularly is significant.
A stinging letter to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) last week has fanned the flames further.
Earlier this month, Facebook officials consulted about the prices of data from different websites, but the company’s response was apparently less than satisfactory.
