In a heartbreaking incident in Kolkata, 83-year-old SP Sinha, a retired government official, fell prey to an online scame, losing his entire life savings of ₹2.5 lakh. The fraudsters posed as bank officials, calling from the same branch where Sinha held his pension account, claiming to verify his KYC details.

Deceptive Call: Trust Exploited

Trusting the call’s legitimacy, Sinha, who resides in Thakurpukur, followed the instructions given by the deceitful caller. Even mentioning the specific table number at the bank, the caller convinced Sinha that only the ‘verification’ section was open on that day.

Facing difficulties during the KYC process, Sinha sought help from his 11-year-old grandson, who unwittingly followed the caller’s instructions. Heartbreakingly, after the call ended, Sinha discovered that ₹2,57,650 were debited from his account, and he also lost access to his fixed deposits and recurring deposits.
