8th Wonder of the World: Cloud Computing
The most widely talked about technology in the IT industry today is Cloud. Cloud computing is one of the fastest growing terms in the IT world yet. It has revolutionized the way we store and access our data.
But what exactly is the Cloud Computing?
Cloud computing is typically defined as a type of computing that relies on sharing computing resources rather than having local servers or personal devices to handle applications. Cloud computing allows the users to access the data from a single centralized server.
This means that the data can be accessed from various locations and devices, such as mobiles, laptops, etc.
The Goal? The goal of cloud computing is to apply supercomputer usage to perform trillions of calculations per second, using the internet to deliver data and results to consumers and to deliver personalized information, to provide data storage or to power large, immersive computer games.
But what is the Cloud? The cloud is a metaphor for the internet. Cloud computing basically means Internet Based Computing that is using the power of the internet, to perform computing functions using supercomputers, usually used by the military and research organizations.
The cloud computing technology has revolutionized the industry by reducing the workload and costs, by making it easier to manage. Most of us have already used some form of cloud computing, without even realizing it! Web based e-mail services like Yahoo!, Gmail and Hotmail use a browser based interface software which allows you to access your private emails over a cloud based server.
Cloud Computing is a technology that makes our work possible. From sending and receiving emails to sharing big clusters of data on the internet. It is a technology that has changed our lives and the way we use the computing environment today.
