Amity School Fined for Not Teaching Punjabi

Punjab Minister fines Amity School ₹50,000 for not teaching Punjabi, violating language education rules.


Harjot Singh Bains, Punjab’s Minister of School Education and Language, revealed that Amity International School in Mohali, Sector 79 has been penalized with a fine of ₹50,000 for not teaching Punjabi as a mandatory subject.The education department discovered that the school was not adhering to the Punjab Learning of Punjabi and Other Languages Act, 2008, despite holding a no-objection certificate from the Punjab government.

School Fined for Language Violation:

Upon receiving a show-cause letter from the director of school education, the school faced a hearing, during which it was found to be in violation of the Act’s provisions. As a result, the school was fined ₹50,000 for its first offense, in accordance with the Act’s regulations. The school has been given a directive to settle the penalty within a five-day period and also to provide a report concerning the issue.

Promoting Punjabi Language:

The decision to fine the school highlights the significance of teaching Punjabi as a compulsory subject in the state of Punjab. The government’s effort to enforce language education regulations aims to preserve and promote the native language and cultural heritage of the region.
