Virat Kohli Faces Potential Ban After Clash with Debutant Sam Konstas
During the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Indian cricketer Virat Kohli is under scrutiny following a physical altercation with Australian debutant Sam Konstas. The incident occurred at the end of the 10th over when Kohli, appearing frustrated, deliberately collided shoulder-first with the 19-year-old batsman.
Konstas had been performing impressively, unsettling the Indian bowling attack with aggressive shots, including audacious ramp shots against Jasprit Bumrah. Kohli’s actions drew immediate criticism from commentators and former players. Michael Vaughan remarked, “He’s completely acted wrong… I don’t know why a senior pro who’s played for so long… why he’s been rattled by a 19-year-old.”

The International Cricket Council (ICC) prohibits inappropriate physical contact, and Kohli’s behavior may be classified as a Level 2 offense, potentially leading to a suspension. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting noted, “I have no doubt that the umpires and the referee will have a good look at that.”
Despite the incident, Konstas remained composed, continuing his aggressive play to score a rapid 60 runs off 65 balls, marking a remarkable debut. He downplayed the altercation, stating, “I think the emotions got to both of us… It happens, it’s cricket.”
As the series stands evenly poised, Kohli’s potential suspension could significantly impact India’s lineup for the upcoming Sydney Test. The cricketing community awaits the ICC’s decision on whether disciplinary action will be taken against Kohli for his conduct.
