Supreme Court grants bail to Manish Sisodia in Delhi excise policy case:
Manish Sisodia, the former deputy chief minister of Delhi and leader of the AAP, was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Friday in connection with accusations of corruption and money laundering stemming from the now-canceled Delhi liquor policy. But after being released from prison, the AAP leader was ordered by the Supreme Court to give up his passport and refrain from influencing witnesses. A bench comprised up of Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Viswanathan recognized Mr. Sisodia’s right to a prompt trial, pointing out that he had been detained for 17 months and that the trial had yet to begin.
As a result, the judges mandated that the senior AAP politician be released after posting ₹10 lakh in bail bonds. He has to give up his passport, appear at the police station every Monday, and refrain from influencing witnesses or interfering with the evidence as part of the bail requirements. As was the case with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was given interim release to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections, the court likewise denied the ED’s oral motion to bar Mr. Sisoida from visiting the Chief Minister’s office or the Delhi Secretariat.
