Paris Olympics: Swapnil Kusale achieved India’s third medal at the Paris Olympics
Swapnil Kusale secured India’s third bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 by placing third in the men’s 50m rifle 3 position final on Thursday. Swapnil teamed up with fellow shooters Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh to secure a hat-trick of medals for India at the Games, as the country’s dominant shooting performance continued. India has never before achieved three shooting medals at one Olympic Games until now.
Olympic debut at Paris
With India now having 3 medals, Swapnil, at 28 years old, made history as the sole Olympic medalist in men’s 50m rifle 3 position after being the first Indian shooter to qualify for the final. Nonetheless, what adds to the sweetness of this victory is the fact that he achieved it during his first-ever Olympic participation. Just under three months ago, Swapnil reserved his tickets for Paris, earning a place following the last Olympic trials at the MP State Shooting Academy Ranges in Bhopal.
India’s third medal
India has secured its third medal in shooting at the 2024 Paris Olympics with this achievement. Manu Bhakar and Sarabjot Singh had also earned medals in the Games prior to Swapnil Kusale. Kusale is the seventh Indian shooter who has won a medal at the Olympics.

Swapnil previous games
At both the 2023 Shooting World Championships in Baku and the following Asian Games in China, the 28-year-old narrowly missed winning a medal, coming in fourth place in both competitions. During the Paris Olympics final, he also faced a familiar situation, being in the middle of the group – sixth place following the kneeling event and fifth place following prone. However, by exerting strong effort while standing, Swapnil gradually moved up in the ranks and ultimately overcame his previous failures.

PM Modi congratulates Swapnil
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Indian shooter Swapnil Kusale for his outstanding performance in the Olympics shooting event, just hours after winning the bronze medal. He also pointed out that Kusale is the initial Indian athlete to achieve a medal in this division.
