MI Create History: Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians Set IPL Record With 10th Victory Over KKR at Wankhede Stadium
Mumbai Indians put their names into history books by becoming the first franchise in IPL history to gain 10 wins against one opponent at one venue. The Wankhede Stadium housed the 10th victory for Mumbai against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). With this win, Mumbai now surpassed KKR, who had nine wins against Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens, to stake a claim to their fortress.
As for KKR, they will be having a chance to equal Mumbai’s record against Punjab at the Eden Gardens on April 26. Other instances have also found their way into the IPL elite-list of maximum wins against a single team at a given venue. On similar lines, Mumbai defeated RCB another eight times each at Wankhede and M Chinnaswamy Stadium, while Chennai Super Kings also garnered eight wins against RCB at their home. Chennai missed another chance to equal Kolkata with the win against Punjab, having lost by 50 runs last week.

The Dominance of Mumbai Over KKR in IPL
With this win, Mumbai Indians extended their dominance over KKR, marking its 24th win over the franchise. This sets a new record in IPL for the most wins of one team over another. Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders sit second on this elite list of teams on equal terms, with 21 wins each against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings, respectively. Kolkata also defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru 20 times and would try to match their record against Punjab when they play them on 17 May.
Dream Debut of Ashwani Kumar and Rickelton’s Heroics
The emphatic victory over KKR was made possible thanks to an incredible debut display by Ashwani Kumar. The 23-year-old fast bowler hailing from Jhanjeri in Punjab made history by becoming the first Indian to take a four-wicket haul on his debut in the IPL. Ashwani proved to be the gamechanger for Mumbai with an exceptional spell of 3-0-24-4 and sent the mighty Kolkata batting lineup into tatters.
Ashwani’s magnificent bowling, however, has truly showcased the level of the Mumbai pace attack, given that he has just four T20s, four List A games, and two Ranji matches to his credit before making his IPL debut. KKR’s miserable batting disintegration was supported brilliantly by Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, and their captain Hardik Pandya. KKR fell cheaply for 116 runs in the 17th over, making it the lowest score of IPL 2025.

Ryan Rickelton: A Class Act in Sealing Mumbai’s Win
While Rohit Sharma was suffering another bad day by his standards, Ryan Rickelton was out there showing himself as a new match-winner for Mumbai. The South African calmly scored an undefeated 62 runs and took Mumbai home. Chasing a mere 117, Mumbai finished off the game with eight wickets and eight overs to spare, further strengthening their historical supremacy over Kolkata.
Conclusion
With this historic win, the Mumbai Indians have firmly stamped their place as one of the dominant teams in IPL history. Their incredible 10th win over KKR at the Wankhede Stadium showed their unmatched consistency and dominance in the tournament and their 24th overall against the franchise. As the 2025 season of IPL unfolds, one will be eager to see whether Kolkata will stand up again and challenge Mumbai’s dominance or will MI continue on with the record-breaking spree.
