In a major setback to India, Jasprit Bumrah unlikely to play IPL, WTC final
Jasprit Bumrah’s injury is more serious; unlikely to play in IPL 2023, WTC Final
If the Indian cricket team is to compete in the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June, they will have to suffer a major setback as their star player Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to play.
According to the sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Jasprit Bumrah’s return could be further delayed due to his back injury which appears to be now more serious than expected.
Bumrah who was expected to return for the IPL (Indian Premier League) season for the Mumbai Indians will also miss the top league 2023.
The star Indian pacer has been out of action for five months and he last featured in the T20I series against Australia in September 2022 and had missed all the major events right from Asia Cup 2022 to T20 World Cup 2022.
With the ODI World Cup 2023 and Asia Cup lined up later this year, the management team is trying to give him a full stretch of time to recover well.
Jasprit Bumrah was also not named in the ODI squad against the Australia series as the authorities of National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru didn’t give him the green signal of fit to play the contest and by the look of it, there is a chance that NCA will not rush him to get into action anytime soon.

For the upcoming two matches, Bumrah’s absence was confirmed prior to the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and for the ODI series, it was decided when the squad for the white-ball series came out. And now, he will hope to come back in time after the WTC final for the 50-over matches, keeping the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup in India in his thoughts.
