India’s First Gold Medal in Asian Games 2023
India's Men's 10m Air Rifle Team made history at the Asian Games 2023 by not only winning the country's first gold medal but also breaking a world record in the process. In the qualification round, the trio of Rudrankksh Patil, Divyansh Panwar, and Aishwary Tomar achieved a record-breaking total score of 1893.7, surpassing the previous world record set by China.

As part of the ongoing Asian Games 2023 , the Men’s 10m Air Rifle Team of India broke the World Record and won the country’s first gold medal.Along with winning India’s first gold medal of the games, the team, which included Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil, Divyansh Singh Panwar, and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, also broke a world record.

In the qualification round, the team of world champion Rudrankksh Patil, Olympian Divyansh Panwar, and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar achieved a total score of 1893.7, surpassing the previous world record of 1893.3 set by the Chinese team of less than a month ago at the World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. Rudrankksh scored 632.5, Tomar scored 631.6, and Panwar scored 629.6 to achieve this new world record.

At the ongoing Asian Games, India’s medal tally now stands at seven, comprising one gold, three silver, and three bronze medals.In a later event, shooter Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar secured a bronze medal in the men’s 10m air rifle individual final by finishing in third place with a total score of 228.8 points. The gold medal was clinched by China’s Lihao Sheng, who scored 253.3 points, while South Korea’s Hajun Park secured the silver medal with 251.3 points.

Interestingly, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar emerged victorious over his fellow Indian, Rudrranksh Patil, in a shoot-off for the bronze. Rudrranksh Patil ended up in fourth place with a total score of 208.7 points. Both athletes might have felt a tinge of disappointment not achieving higher positions, especially considering their role in securing a ‘record-breaking’ gold medal for India earlier.
This bronze medal marked India’s fourth medal in shooting at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
