Before Ind vs Aus test series, Mohammed Siraj, Shubman Gill Nominated for ICC Player Of The Month Award
Indian star opener Shubman Gill and pacer Mohammed Siraj along with New Zealand batter Devon Conway on Tuesday were nominated for the ICC (International Cricket Council) Player of the Month Award for their stellar show in January. With three hundreds and two fifties across formats, New Zealand opener Devon Conway has had a fine start to the year and is the third contender for the award.

Men In Blue started the year off with a 2-1 against Sri Lanka, followed by a clean sweep in the three- match one-day international series in a three-match T20I series. Then they fought against New Zealand and won 3-0, in a three-match ODI series before completing a 2-1 win over the Kiwis in the three-game T20I series.
Following a spectacular display in the white-ball series against New Zealand and Sri Lanka recently, Gill showcased his batting prowess while Siraj led India’s fast-bowling attack with distinction in ODIs in, showing his brilliance consistently, especially with the new ball in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah.

Indian opener Shubman Gill during the month of January, scored 567 ODI runs at an astonishing average of 113.40, adding 76 runs in T20Is. Interestingly, he scored 126 against New Zealand that too unbeaten in the final T20I of the series, which was played on February 1. However, his monstrous hit of the month came in the ODI series opener in Hyderabad against the Black Caps, where he again remained unbeaten on 208, becoming just the eighth batter to score an ODI double century.

Meanwhile, Siraj also became the number 1 ranked bowler in the ICC Men’s ODI bowler rankings and has stepped up in the absence of the injured Jasprit Bumrah to become India’s premier fast bowler. The right-arm bowler bagged 4/46 from 10 overs against New Zealand in a high-scoring thriller match at his home ground in Hyderabad, before returning an unbelievable 6-1-10-1 in a brilliant opening burst in the second ODI in Raipur.
The 28-year-old pacer took 14 wickets in five ODIs against New Zealand and Sri Lanka at an average of 10.57, which included back-to-back four-wicket hauls. Despite the visitors losing both the T20I and ODI series, Conway put up some great performances scoring three centuries and two fifties, with 493 runs in nine international matches in the month of January.
He was the standout batter in New Zealand’s 2-1 win against Pakistan in the three-match ODI series prior to their India tour.
INDIA vs AUSTRALIA
Men In Blue are now gearing up to host Australia in a four-match Test series, starting February 9, 2023. This time, the stakes are high as this series will mark the last task of both teams in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship. India will need at least a 2-0 to seal a final berth whereas the team from the Down Under need just a draw.
