Gavaskar Slams Nasser Hussain & Critics Over India’s CT 2025 ‘Advantage’ Claims

Gavaskar Roasts Nasser Hussain and Other Critics of India’s ‘Advantage’ in Dubai for Champions Trophy 2025, Stating Their Salaries Come From India’s Contribution to Global Cricket

Gavaskar blasts Nasser Hussain & other critics for claiming India has an unfair CT 2025 advantage

Sunil Gavaskar has hit back at critics like Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton who said India has an “advantage” in the 2025 Champions Trophy where every match will be played in Dubai. In sharp contrast to the views of the former English cricketers, Gavaskar described the critics and said that instead of targeting India, they should rather concentrate on the performance of their teams. He pointed out the financial clout that India holds in international cricket, arguing that the critics get their salaries funded thanks to India.

The argument started with the claims made by Hussain and Atherton as the two were speaking on the Sky Sports Podcast arguing that India had a “home advantage” in Dubai since they were not traveling like the other teams who were shuttling between Pakistan and the UAE. “Rassie van der Dussen did point out that, logistically, Rohit Sharma’s squad was indeed in a position of comfort and they had to make the most of it.”

However, Gavaskar rubbished all claims in an interview with India Today. “It’s not worth commenting on it,” he said, stating that even pitches are not under Indian control, and travel has always been a part of cricket.
He further pointed out that the ex-players and some experts roundly condemn India because they fail to accept that India has assumed a dominant role in the world of cricket: not only in talent but now also in financial contributions through television rights and media revenue.

“They just can’t seem to understand where India stands in international cricket. The revenue India brings is huge, and they need to understand that their salaries also come from what India brings to world cricket,” confirmed Gavaskar.

India virtually reached the semi-final, and South Africa has almost done it. To the contrary, England’s exit has followed from two losses in succession. Gavaskar also took this chance to question why the critics were not analyzing their own teams’ failures rather than fixating on India.

“These are all experienced people. Why aren’t they asking why their own team hasn’t qualified? That is really the issue,” he remarked. “Your players don’t seem to care as long as they meet certain expectations, though they should care for their country and their teams. Gavaskar ended by advising Indian fans and players to ignore such criticism.
