At the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, India created history by winning their first gold medals in both the men’s and women’s categories, a significant milestone in Indian chess. During a ceremony on Wednesday, the All India Chess Federation awarded a generous ₹3.2 crore to the Indian teams that won the historic 45th Olympiad. The announcement was made by AICF president Nitin Narang at the event. Each member of the victorious teams will be given ₹25 lakh, and the captains Abhijeet Kunte and Srinath Narayanan will receive ₹15 lakh each. The Indian delegation’s leader, Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua, will be given ₹10 lakh, while the assistant coaches will receive ₹7.5 lakh.
President of AICF remarks
Narang, the President of AICF, mentioned during the felicitation ceremony, “The quest for gold in Hungary may have ceased, but the ambition for achievement persists. In the open division we were in control and in the women’s division we were victorious. Our players are highly skilled at chess. Vishwanathan Anand’s seeds have now blossomed into a massive forest.”

AICF, Dev A Patel remarks
The secretary general of AICF, Dev A Patel, stated that the historic pair of gold medals will assist in sparking a chess revolution within the nation. In the 97 years of Chess Olympiad, we achieved first place in both categories. “It is a momentous accomplishment,” stated Patel. This will ignite a fresh passion in chess lovers. We will strive to utilize this momentum to inspire the next wave of chess players.
Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally praised and congratulated the champions for their dedication and impact on Indian sports.
