Kalaratri is the most ferocious form of Goddess Parvati
When Maa Parvati had removed her outer golden skin to kill demons named Shumbha and Nishumbha, th.n she became Goddess Kalaratri. Kalaratri is the fiercest and the most ferocious form of Goddess Parvati.

Kalratri is the seventh form among the nine forms of Goddess Durga. Especially, Kalratri is propitiated with worship on the seventh day of Navratri celebrations. Kalrathri is the most violent of the nine forms of Durga and the very appearance of Kalratri is terrific and fearful.
Planet Shani is governed by Goddess Kalaratri. Goddess Kalaratri complexion is dark black and she rides on a donkey. She has richly hair which is flying in all directions and with her four hands and in her right hands are in Abhaya and Varada Mudra and she carries sword and the deadly iron hook in her left hands. This form of Goddess is believed to be the destroyer of all demon entities, ghosts, spirits and negative energies, who flee upon knowing of her arrival.
Although Goddess Kalaratri is the most ferocious form of Goddess Parvati, she blesses her devotees with Abhaya and Varada Mudras. Because of her Shubh or auspicious power within her ferocious form Goddess Kalaratri is also known as Goddess Shubhankari.

The meaning of the word Kaalratri, it once suggests ‘time’ as well as ‘death’. The term raatri means ‘night’, symbolically suggesting all that is negative, threatening and evil. Thus, Kaalratri could mean the one who puts an end to the evil, evil spirits, ghosts, negative energies, demonic entities as well as on the negativity.

Om Bhurbhuva svah kalaraatri iha gaccha ihatisha
kalaratryai namah kalaratrimavahayami sthapayami
namah padhyadibhih pujanaambidhaaya
Meaning: I see the awesome form of Mother Kaalratri combining in her the gross, subtle and causal bodies. I invoke the presence of the divine mother who is called by the name of the dark night. Please be propitiated with my offerings and bless me with your bounteous grace.
