World Indigenous People, NESFAS countdowns begins
Since 1994 the UN has observed The International Day of the World’s Indigenous People on 9th August. It realizes they are still facing challenges to access healthcare.
NESFAS in Shillong hosted Dr. Harriet Kuhnlein as it prepares for the INDIGENOUS TERRA MADRE 2015 (ITM 2015) in November.
Dr. Kuhnlein shared how nutrition developed over generations is a balanced relationships of how knowledge is transferred by the indigenous peoples and diet and access to health facilities is interrelated. Her work is regarded as the essential first documentation for food system research and promotion with Indigenous Peoples.
NESFAS is conducting a study in determining the nutrition status of the family with National Institute of Nutrition in a matrimonial society in Lyngam, Meghalaya which will be presented at ITM 2015.
