What Are You:Performer Or Workaholic?
While working in an MNC or a Government office, we often hear that a person is a workaholic or an amazing performer but often the difference between the both is not understood and nor does anyone bother to find out. However, there is a slight difference in both the words and the way they are in the official environment but yes no one can refute the fact that both are hard-workers. However, what separates them from each other? Let’s find out:
Workaholics and performers both get the work done Source
Value: Performers are those people who are smart workers and know what to do, how and when. They can complete the desired work in half the time taken by the workaholics. On the other hand, workaholics might take a lot of time in doing the same work although they do justice to the work. They put in a lot of effort whereas performers do everything with ease and just like it is their right hand job. Probably that is why performers know that they are doing just fine whereas workaholics depend on other’s point of view and compliments or comments to evaluate or justify their work.

“A workaholic could be anyone- someone who works hard but might not be motivated. They would push themselves because they really need to and mostly, some sort of gain or fear drives them. On the other hand, though the word performer is attributed to performance in the job, it can also be a person who is self-motivated, who loves his work and pours his heart in to be the best and sharpen his skills.” says Azmaan Khan, a student.
Planning: Planning your day or the work on your desk is the most important thing; some people are born with such skills while some are not. In our office, we all must have come across people who are clumsy or very well-organised. High performers perfectly organise the desk and prioritise their work in the range of the very important work to less important work. They plan their day in such a way that they get over with the important work fetching a brownie point for themselves whereas for workaholics it is quite difficult since they cannot sense the most important thing and the less important work on their desk. They divide their entire focus on 10 things leading to nothing being completed on time.
The Performer is an efficient worker. Source
Workaholics have a mindset that the more they keep themselves busy the more they would be important for others and themselves. They feel insecure the moment their desk goes empty whereas performers work towards balancing their work-life and personal life, they finish off their work quickly and find time to spend with their near and dear ones.
“I think the major difference between performers and workaholics is that performers work towards achieving the result whereas workaholics focus on getting more work done. Workaholics just want to keep themselves occupied unlike performers who work smartly and keeps their focus on the bull’s eye” says Vibhor Hasija, Event Manager.
“Well, the comparison might sound funny or absurd but the difference between a workaholic and a performer is similar to the difference between a horse and a donkey. A horse is a furious performer. He not only works but generates output and is efficient whereas a donkey just works. A workaholic is similar to a donkey who has a compulsive need to work but is not concerned with output and doesn’t consider even the quality of work sometimes” says Areed Anwer, a content writer.
These are some subtle differences between a workaholic and a performer. So, who are you, a performer or a workaholic?
