Ireland’s first gay couple marries after landmark referendum
In a landmark referendum, Ireland’s population voted with a overwhelming 62 percent to allow gay marriages in this otherwise conservative catholic nation. This also made this country the first to go for a referendum on the subject.
This was challanged in courts, which were overthrown, paving the way for legal same sex marriages to take place beginning this week.
Taking advantage of the changed climate, couple Cormac Gollogly and Richard Dowling, who have been together since twelve years, and engaged for 5 of those, officially tied the knot on Tuesday in Tipperary.
