Let’s talk about it! Menstruation (Essence of Menstruation Hygiene).
Jago Gaon along with Struggle for Justice and Parmanath Chintan recently organised a workshop on Menstrual Hygiene to create awareness about the stigmas attached to it. The workshop laid emphasis on the usage of sanitary napkins and maintaining hygiene during periods.Apart from the speakers, the interaction during the workshop raised a very important issue that is ‘ Silence on Menstruation in our society’.
Workshop on Menstrual Hygiene
“In our country around 30 crore women go through their cycle every month just imagine huge population goes through it then also we fee shy to talk about it” , says Tara Shankar, Speaker.
“Do we feel shy when we ask for Dispirin or do we get it in a black poly bag. No, right? Then why a Whisper packet (sanitary napkin) are wrapped in black poly bags. Why don’t we understand it is natural”, says Pragya Mishra.
People participating in the workshop
This initiative is been taken forward by Jago Gaon in all rural as well as urban areas to make people talk about it and to break several Myths and taboos. Such as:
Don’t cook food during those five days.
A woman can’t enter temple
She can’t touch pickle.
Different exercises in workshop
A process that is natural and is responsible for reproduction in women is seen as impure activity.
Why is Menstrual awareness important?
As stress level is very high in today’s era. So, now cycle starts at an early age. So, we should start early and talk to our daughters well in advance if we observe any changes in our daughter’s body.
So, let’s be open and talk about it to people around us without feeling shy.Start from today, educate people, it is not a disease just a process.
Young people boldly talking about it
