Escape Hunger on World Hunger Day!
On the occasion of World Hunger Day, Mydea Ventures along with Escape- a roof top restaurant at Galleria Market would be holding a week long campaign, ‘Escape the Hunger’ to feed underprivileged children. The campaign will run from 22nd May to 28th May at Galleria Market, Gurgaon.
ESCAPE which is a well-known restaurant of Galleria Market has joined hands in this cause by agreeing to provide food for one underprivileged child for every lunch it sells during the campaign week. “When these youngsters proposed such a compelling cause, we didn’t think twice. Being in the restaurant business, making another 500 meals for children would be an easy task for us. We can’t wait to see the smile that we would bring on the children’s faces.” said Nitin Malik, one of the directors of ESCAPE.
Apart from the food part, the campaign will have huge graffiti walls around the fountain of Galleria where people can pledge their names for helping in this cause. Delhi Street Art has also come forward and will be contributing by painting for World Hunger Day. A counter on these walls will keep tab of the number of meals collected for children in real-time.
Other organisations like Delhi College of Photography, SMILE Foundation, Shades of Happiness, etc have also joined in hands to spread awareness about this initiative and would help in increasing the foot fall of the area by inviting people to participate, along with some college students. And as the evening approaches, the audience would have the opportunity to witness musical and singing performances by students.
During the campaign, the restaurant is introducing a two-course lunch menu at a special price of INR 245, to encourage a greater participation by its patrons towards the cause.
Sameer Dhar, director of ESCAPE has shown interest to take this initiative to the next step. “Based on the response we get from the people, we would be looking at more such initiatives for children, such as supporting them with education fee at schools that also provide day meals.”, he said.
Akshay Gupta, M.D of Mydea Ventures, a young socially responsible entrepreneur has only one message, “We came across this idea completely by chance. We were researching about major days celebrated across the globe for one of our projects and stumbled upon World Hunger Day celebrated in the UK. We thought with the soaring numbers of poverty and hunger in India, this concept needs to be started in India as well. Since this is the first time that this initiate is being taken in India, we would start only with Galleria Market, Gurgoan and from the next time move on to more locations. We hope that we’ll be able to find restaurants like Escape in other parts as well to support this cause.”
Ending the conversation with us, Akshay spoke about what he hopes in future, “In the future we wish to make this a much bigger campaign by doing this at multiple locations simultaneously and attack the root cause of hunger, illiteracy and lack of skills. We will be collecting meals for the kids for one week to feed as many children as possible on the Hunger Day, i.e. 28th May 2015.”
