Dancer, Choreographer, teacher…Mrinalini Sarabhai passes away
One of India’s most acclaimed Dancers’, Mrinalini Sarabhai went to light today at the age of 97. She trained more than 18 thousand students in a long fulfilling career in the ‘Darpana Academy of Performing Arts’ in Ahmedabad, founded by her.
Mrinalini’s forte was Indian classcial dancing, having performed the World over, to critical acclaim. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 1965, followed by the Padma Bhushan in 1992 by the Government of India
Born in Kerala, and educated in Switzerland, and in Shantiniketan under the tutelage of Rabindranath Tagore, she married the father of Indian Space Program – Vikram Sarabhai in 1942, and is survived by two children – Kartikeya Sarabhai and Mallika Sarabhai.
