Dance bars to reopen in Maharashtra!
The Supreme Court of India has stayed a law passed by the Maharashtra legislative assembly banning dance bars in the state, effectively allowing these bars to reopen.
The ban was first effected a decade back in 2005 by the then state government saying that these bars, which were just a front for prostitution were a corrupting influence on the youth of the state.
This Supreme Court order comes as a relief to the more than 100 thousand women employed as dancers in these bars, not counting the millions of revellers whose only solace in their grueling lives was a visit to these bars.
