August 7, National Handloom Day
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘India Handloom’ brand at a function in Chennai to mark the 1905 Swadeshi movement.
It was on August 7, 1905 the Swadeshi Movement boycotted British made products and revived the use of domestic products and production processes.
It is this observation, today it provides employment to 43 lakhs weavers and contributes 15% to the cloth production. Add to this – 95% of hand woven fabric comes from India. The launch of the brand India Handloom will help to promote genuine made handloom and enlarge the potential of selling it on e-commerce.
